Alfred Clark (1873-1950) and his wife Ivy, of Black Firs, Fulmer, Bucks., were keen collectors of Chinese art. Alfred Clark was born in New York and in 1889 joined the organisation set up by Thomas Edison to develop the phonograph. He patented various inventions in sound reproduction from 1896 and was Managing Director of The Gramophone Co., Ltd., 1909-31.
