Hu or wine vessel in bronze. Made in China, 3rd phase, Zhou Dynasty.

Measurements:
h: 12 1/4 in; diam: 4 1/2 in; diam of base: 5 3/8 in

Provenance:
Henry Brown collection; his sale, Sotheby’s 25 March 1947, lot 81, purchased Bluett & Sons for Sir William Burrell, £210; by whom gifted to the Corporation of the City of Glasgow, 1947.

A large bronze wine vessel "Hu", the short trumpet neck with three archaic characters surmounting a massive oviform body decorated with three horizontal bands, on a circular foot, the loose rings suspended from bold animal mask plaques; the whole with a fine silvered red and green patination. Warring States. 12 1/4" high.
