Sir William Burrell, Purchase Book 1945 p.24: ‘A Chinese bronze. Oval bowl and cover with spreading foot, "an", probably intended for use with hot liquids. The cover which can also be used as a tray has 3 bird head supports which act as feet in this case. Loop handles on each side of the body. There are 3 bands of low relief design on the cover. Dark green patina on the exterior & vivid patches of blue (azurite) & green deposit in the interior. Height 5 3/4". Circa 300-400BC. Intact’. |
